Thing #16

I thought the Flickr geotagging was kinda cool but I don't think I'll ever really use it. I like taking pictures but I don't usually go and post them everywhere.
BlockRocker was kinda cool too but I think Flickr is better and more people use it.
If I ever went on vacation or wanted to show people I knew that lived far away photos this is one creative way to do so.

Geocaching is for people who have nothing better to do. Taking a lame game to the extreme, but hey, if people like it... oh well.

Thing #15

For this thing I chose to go to Minnesota Public Radio's podcast. There's so much stuff to listen to and it can be fun. I listened to the song of the day and if you want to listen to it too here the link:
http://minnesota.publicradio.org/radio/podcasts/song_of_the_day/

It was simple and organized very nicely making it easy to navigate through the website.

I don't think I would do a podcast on my own personally because I don't think I have a very good radio voice and I prefer having people read my work instead of listening to it.

If Walt Whitman was alive today I think he totally would have a podcast. It would be all sophisticated and called "The Works of Walt Whitman" Not too clever but it gets the job done.
Im not sure if his parents would listen to it but they better just to be supportive!

Thing #14

RPC and the Assignment Calculator is awesome for college kids. We have so much homework and stuff going on all the time so this is a great time management tool. It's very helpful and I think teachers and students should all know about it and check it out. The Assignment calculator is better suited for me and possibly other students at Ai because it seems a little easier and directed more towards students instead of teachers. Both are great for research projects because they give you helpful hints and try to lead you in the right direction.
I think if you have a hard time managing your time and doing things last minute these applications would work well for you outside of school as well.

Thing #13

For this thing I chose iGoogle. It was easy to set up and nice because it has all the important information i want to know right on it, such as the weather. I don't know if I'll make it my permanent page but it still seems like a really good idea and I recommend it.
I would also recommend Ta Da Lists for students and people just in general. Instead of having papers with a bunch of crap written all over them, always getting lost, online lists are convenient and neat. The online calendars are great too because we're always forgetting things and missing important dates, but this way when we go online to check or Facebook or Twitter, we can check our calendar too!

Backpack was okay but i like all the other applications provided. :]

Thing #12

At first I didn't think I would like the Delicious bookmarking page but after giving it a try i like it a lot. I can go to it and easily access my favorite websites with one click. It's fast and I can get everything done in less time. It's great for those times when you can't remember a site, but it's also good for when your researching because you can bookmark all the sites you got information from in case you may need to go back to them.
I think I'll keep my Delicious page around and use it a lot. It's much more convenient then forget a site and trying to search for it again on Google.

Thing #11

http://www.picturetrail.com/janellegage If you would like to view my slideshow, check this out!

This tools are great for everyone and you can do a lot with them. I used the Picture Trail and it was really easy. They give you many options and you can change settings and effects with just a click.

I've noticed a lot of people using Picnik to make photo collages so that might be something to check out.

Thing #10

I created this by using Flickr Spell.

You can use a lot of these tool for many thing such as assignments and self promotion because it is creative and fun. It's unique and easy to do and can set you apart from others.

Sharing photos online great and can be helpful in many many ways but it's always important to make sure you are allowed to use them first. Don't be greedy.

Thing #9

This photograph was taken by Collin Hughes. A link to his flickr to view more is :http://www.flickr.com/photos/sleepxwalker/3472343935/

*This is actually a picture of my boyfriend :]

Flickr is great for uploading quality photos and very popular among photographers.
I've actually had a Flickr account before and used to update it frequently. I didn't have a fancy camera but I liked taking photos.

I think it's great everyone can see your photos. It's a quality site and people go on all the time looking for photographers for model shots, weddings, and senior pictures. It great for developing a public portfolio for everyone to see.

Thing #8

I thought the Wiki was interesting and kinda cool. You can change any information at any time you want. Within schools and organizations Wiki would work good for research and opinion papers. I can understand why teachers wouldn't want us using Wiki because the information can be changed at any time and it may not always be truthful.

The Wiki I edited was 'New Moon' on Wikipedia.com. Its really random on the page but I couldn't think of anything else to write. I added the part about the movie coming out soon starring Kristin Stewart and Robert Pattinson. Yup it's pointless but people love the twilight saga. I'll even admit it.

Physical Graffiti. Why? I have no idea. Sounds the best at the moment. :]

Thing #7

I thought the Zoho Writer was much easier to work with than Google Docs. First off it was simple to view and download. The tools were basic and simple which was actually nice. I didn't have to send a lot of time trying to figure everything out.
I think the founding fathers would have appreciated this but the Declaration of Independence is pretty solid so i don't think it could have been much better.

Thing #6

Thing 6 wasn't that great.... i really don't follow news and media well so it was boring to sit through. The websites provided would work good though if you where researching something in the public eye because there are so many stories provided. If you kept up on posting and were truthfully a lot of people would probably follow you because when people want the news, they want the truth. It's also easy to share and recommend posts and stories to others on many different sites. All the options to do so are clearly shown and easy to follow if anyone chose to do so. Sites like Reddit are great because you can link them to social sites like twitter so you can check them on the go and it's a creditable site because people read and 'recommend' articles so you know what is being provided is true.

The new Kate is crazier. She was a nice, humble wife/mother and now she's trying to live in her teens by being a baby about the whole situation and acting a fool. Act and look your age Kate.
Jon is even worse. It's funny how they divorce and both now look like they want to be twenty again. And yes i think Ed Hardy is all Jon owns. But what i've seen pictures of him in gym shorts..what a step up!!
But anyways i could actually care less about those two. We have the balloon boy family now!

Thing #5

Oh Twitter, i never thought i would see you. I ended up choosing Twitter because a lot of other people i know do so i can talk to them on there. It's kinda nice if you just wanna say something short and simple and convenient because i can update it on my cell phone (not a blackberry or anything with the internet) and its totally free. I don't really think I can see this having some application to school work or professional development because all you can really do on it is tell people something about your day or whatever. It's almost too simple to make anything productive out of it. Like all social networking sites, it can be evil because other people can easily write something bad about you or someone you know and there's not much you can do about it. It can also be a place where hackers can show up and try to break into your profile and mess with things. So protect your password!!!

Thing #4

I have had a facebook for a while now and already added a few people from school here. Facebook is actually my favorite networking site because everyone seems to use it and check it regularly so it's easy to keep in touch. I don't 'party hard' or anything of that nature so i never have pictures that if a potential employer saw they would not want to hire me for. Even though i haven't posted any of my work for people to see, i would like to once i have enough 'good' stuff so everyone can see what I'm capable of and maybe want me to do work for them later on.
I'm pretty open about everything so i don't tend to disclose much information because almost everyone i know on Facebook is a friend or relative.
The professional network wasn't all that different from the social networking to me. The layout was quite similar and you can do a lot of the same things. The only difference I see is people seem to take the professional network more seriously, such as posting things about their work and important events, while with social networking it's pretty much anything at all.

Thing #3

Thing 3 was very easy. i already have my account and check it at least once a day. I found being able to check my email, grades, and account all soooo useful and easy for students at Ai. It's great for all of us because we don't have to go to an office, wait, and a bunch of other time consuming things to get the information we need when we can just go on the website whenever we want and do it ourselves. The one resource i find extremely helpful is the student email. I already email teachers and staff often and it's great and easy to keep in touch.

And uhmmm...i didn't have any problems access anything.... no seriously.... maybe I'm missing something.... or just that good!

Thing #2

I just set up a RSS account and I'm not to fond of it. It seems confusing but I guess once I get used to it I'll like it better. I think it'll be good for me if I want to keep up with a certain subject or subjects in the news because they'll all be in one place. It's also good for those trying to get a message out because its fast, efficient, and gets to as many people as you want. I found there where a few websites available that can give you the option to 'subscribe' so RSS's so if anyone is frustrated I would scan more those and even check other people's blogs to see what they're subscribed to.

Thing 1. Setting up my blog

At first i wasn't sure how easy or hard the 16 things project was going to be, but i was surprised. So far the directions are very in depth and easy to follow. I've never had a personal blog like this before but i think it can be fun. It was simple to set up and i like my profile layout. The project in general seems like it will be very helpful and show me a lot of new things i never knew and things I am excited to try.
